LITERACY WRITING

This unit, we are going to work on the following text type:

AN ENCYCLOPAEDIA ENTRY

An encyclopaedia is different from a dictionary, because it gives you information and varied facts about different topics (dictionaries just focus on the meaning, pronunciation, use, and grammatical forms of a word). Then, we could say an encyclopaedia is a collection of information.

In it, we can find a lot of different encyclopedia entries related to different subjects: Sciences, History and Geography, Technology, Arts, Biography...

GET SOME POPCORN AND ENJOY!

As you may remember, we are so lucky to have in Madrid the National Archaeological Museum of Spain. There, we can find a lot of objects and remains from Prehistory, so we encourage you to go... it's worth the visit!

LITERACY WRITING

This unit, we are going to work on the following text type:

A MYTHICAL CREATURE

Mythical creatures are supernatural animals that originated from ancient mythologies, stories and folklore. Relating to myth and legend, mythical creatures often have metaphorical significance.

GET SOME POPCORN AND ENJOY!

Greek people loved creating myths to explain things that were a bit difficult to understand or to make people think on the Good and the Bad. Did you know that they tried to explain the seasons through Persephone's myth? Have you listened the expression "la avaricia rompe el saco"? Then, you have to check the myth on the King Midas and the golden touch.

[For the King Midas tale, remember you can activate the captions to read while you listen]

Also, British people have invented different myths around their history and relevant characters like George and the Dragon or Nessie - The Loch Ness Monster. Click the following links to listen about them!

Do you know any myth from your country? Maybe you want to research and tell us your results in class!
